Reflection on Technology In Education Course

The end is near and I can't believe how fast this class has gone by! I always go into the classes thinking that I will try my best for the A and when I walked in and was given an A it took the pressure off so that I could just enjoy the learning and growing, which I did. I have learned so much in this class and I feel like I have build up a toolkit that I am already putting to good use. I met with my principal at work and showed her all the tricks I learned about google forms and google docs. Our new weekly staff survey now includes emojis, pictures and a custom banner with our logo and school year teacher motto! My principal is happy and grateful that I shared my new knowledge to improve our school. Sometimes it's little things like that that make a difference in your career! Happy principal, happy teacher! lol I also created a google doc of all the links and resources we learned about that were my favorite and shared it with all our teachers. Some of them had never heard o...

Social Media Post Power So,I was scrolling through Facebook yesterday as I usually do when I am bored watching a kid movie with my kids. Hotel Transylvania #100. I stopped dead in my scrolling tracks when I came across this post. YESS! I thought, SO MUCH YES! This is how I have been feeling about my daughter and about my students. They will get there! I think sometimes we get so caught up in trying to compete that we forget that we don't have to. Or we get so caught up in questioning what life will look like for students and children who experience delays that we forget that they are the people they were always meant to be! This post seriously gave me such power. I posted it and shared with my husband. We don't have to think of a disability as an end or a stop i.e. a period. We don't have to think of it as a negative. We can think of it as a comma, a momentary pause WITH a continuation! The sentence continues as does life as God intended. I think this pos...

Visual learners and a flipped classroom? Learning styles to me feel new. I never grew up knowing that people learned differently or that we might be on different levels and in fact I think that it was frowned upon to think of yourself as unique in terms of education. Wow, have times changed! Now students are expected to get to know themselves and take responsibility for their education in terms of knowing how they learn and what "level" they are on not to mention any goals that they are working towards or objectives they are currently working on. I never had that and I was always a good student/learner, but I love that all this information can help students who struggle to find the exact path that suits them. So I took a short online quiz that we give our students at work and learned that I am mostly a visual learner and then auditory and not much of a kinesthetic learner. As a visual leaner, I like lists, pictures, and charts to organize information. I al...

(Policy Adviser  at the US Department of State Marci Hodge, talked to a classroom of 5th grade students at Marquez School in Chicago. She told them, “We had difficulties growing up, we lived in three different domestic violence shelters, and I believe this made me very sensitive to women’s issues.” Thank you Marci Hodge and  Tiffany Rivera for such  a great chat! Marci Hodge began her career in the active duty Army in 2000 and was commissioned a Quartermaster Officer. Her first deployment was to Iraq in 2003 when Operation Iraqi Freedom began. After this, she went to Airborne School and spent time at Fort Bragg in the Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne) Unit as the only woman Company Commander.) "Students can't BE what they can't SEE"  So I work at a low income school currently in Brighton Park in the City of Chicago. The school consists of about 98.9% Latino families. It's an amazing school and I love working with my co-workers and students, ...

What are some of the positive and negatives of technology in education?

Technology in Education, students have a lot to learn.  What are some of the positive and negatives of  technology in education? Wow, my first ever blog post! If I didn't have this class, let's be honest, I would have never been able to say that I have a blog. This is just something I would never do. This for sure is an example of technology in education working. I am learning and experiencing something new because of a class and an assignment. Would I have been exposed to blogging otherwise, I think not. Technology has an affect on students because it allows them to do and work on things that they might not normally get to experience, like myself. It also helps to lessen gaps in economically struggling classrooms who may not have technology at home and may not have been exposed to that knowledge or usage. Using technology in the classroom gives students the power to not only learn, but to create as well.  Given the chance, students are able to cultivate ...
